In recent years, the number of river surfing enthusiasts 🏄🏄🏄 has skyrocketed at the Guy wave and the Habitat 67 wave. This phenomenon is also at the origin of the creation of the Surf Grand Montréal association, an important part of whose mission is to develop the river surfing community of Greater Montreal by considering the creation of new waves . Such achievements will make it possible to distribute surfers between the different sites to reduce waiting times and improve the experience for everyone.
Wave Creation Committee
The challenge is certainly significant, but a specific committee has been set up by Surf Grand Montréal, with the collaboration of KSF , in order to maximize our chances of obtaining new waves.
This committee aims to:
Identify sites where new river waves could be created in the Greater Montreal area
Obtain information and technical field data in order to qualify the potential of the selected sites
Find funding to carry out various studies (e.g. feasibility, environmental impact, etc.)
Target engineering firms to carry out appropriate studies
Potential sites that have been abandoned
To date, seven sites with high potential have been studied. Unfortunately, five of them had to be abandoned due to their hydrography, poor water quality, or certain regulations in force.
Diversion Canal: Poor Water Quality
Visitation Island Nature Park : Poor water quality
René Lévesque Park : Technical impossibility
Lachine Canal: Impossibility due to Parks Canada regulations, poor water quality
Second Wave to Guy - Potential too low
Potential sites still under study
The committee is still studying the RécréoParc Sainte-Catherine (2) track.
However, the most promising option, for the moment, remains that of the Le Moyne channel sector, at Parc Jean-Drapeau (1).

Indeed, the Société du Parc Jean-Drapeau (SPJD) has shown itself to be very open to the project and is currently collaborating with the committee to conduct a pre-feasibility study, aimed at assessing the true technical potential of a standing wave on its site. If the results are positive, the next steps will include a formal feasibility study, a public consultation, and an environmental impact study. It goes without saying that we are delighted with the collaboration of this valuable partner!
